Abe Mashni, 2023 KACDL Vice President and Education Committee Chair, is a criminal defense attorney practicing in Lexington, Kentucky. After graduating the University of Kentucky, magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Abe earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law. While in law school, Abe participated on the Trial Advocacy Board and was granted a Limited Practice License from the Kentucky Supreme Court. Abe utilized the limited license to its full extent by working at the Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney office. During this time, he prosecuted a felony trial and argued several evidentiary hearings on behalf of the Commonwealth – all while still in law school. As a result of this experience, Abe has intimate knowledge of how prosecutors and law enforcement officers will develop and prosecute your criminal case.
Abe began his legal career as a Staff Attorney for the Fayette Circuit Court Judge Kimberly Bunnell. In this capacity, he gained invaluable insight of the inner workings of a complicated court system. After a great year working for Judge Bunnell, Abe became an associate attorney at Baldani, Rowland & Richardson in 2014.
In 2018, the firm changed its name to Baldani Law Group and Abe was made partner. While in private practice, Abe has successfully represented clients in over 20 counties across central Kentucky. His jury trial experience includes: federal criminal defense, state felony criminal defense, state misdemeanor criminal defense, and personal injury. He has also handled several family law bench trials including: divorce, custody, child support, and Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Abe’s memberships include the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (KACDL) where he also serves on the board of directors, Kentucky Bar Association, and the United States District Court Eastern District of Kentucky.In 2019, Abe was awarded the Clarence Darrow Prodigy Award by the Kentucky Associate of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Abe takes great pride in knowing that his clients put their trust in him to get results. He gives every client his cell phone number because emergencies don’t only happen between 8:30am-5:00pm. By giving each case individualized attention and focusing on the details, Abe can be proactive and aggressive in fighting for his client’s rights.
Abe is a former “Big” brother and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass. When not volunteering his time or practicing law, Abe enjoys spending time with his wife, Ann, and bird dog, Cooper. He also is an avid golfer, hunter, and University of Kentucky sports fan.

Ernesto Scorsone has served on the Board of Governors of the KBA as well as the Fayette County Bar Association. He has served on the KY Supreme Court’s commission on gender bias and led the recent effort to survey the Bench and Bar on race, gender and LGBTQ attitudes in our legal system. Ernesto chaired the Commission that helped institute Family Courts in Ky and helped secure funding of Ky’s Drug Courts. Ernesto served in the Ky Legislature: twelve years in the House and twelve years in the Senate. He was a champion of health care reforms, improved funding of our public school system and civil rights legislation. Ernesto also served as Fayette Circuit Court Judge for 13 years. During his tenure he instituted Fayette County’s first conciliation conferences to avoid residential foreclosures.
For the past 40 years, Ernesto has been a strong advocate for LGBT rights. He was lead counsel in Commonwealth v Wasson which overturned Ky’s Fourth Degree Sodomy statute. He helped enact a Fairness ordinance in Lexington, the State Government Executive Order protecting LGBTQ employees, and led many fundraising campaigns for the LGBTQ community. Most recently he helped create a two million dollar permanent endowment, JustFundKY, to fund LGBTQ education efforts throughout the state. In 2010, Ernesto was inducted in KY’s Civil Rights Hall of Fame. In 2022, Ernesto was inducted in the UK College of Law Hall of Fame.
Kimberly Baird began her career as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney to Ray Larson in 1996, and as Lou Anna Red Corn’s First Assistant in 2016. When Lou Anna announced her retirement, Kimberly was appointed by Governor Beshear to fill the remainder of Lou Anna’s term beginning October 1, 2022. Kimberly became the first African American female in Kentucky to serve in the role of Fayette Commonwealth’s AttorneyShe was born and raised in Lexington; graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1993 and the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1996. She has tried over 115 cases before juries – including approximately 26 homicides cases. For decades, she has trained new prosecutors across the state at the Kentucky Prosecutor’s Conference, as well as instructing officers with the Lexington Police Department and the Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) in Richmond.She is also a strong advocate for crime victims, especially the most vulnerable in our community – children. She is a member of the office’s Special Victim’s Unit which focuses on prosecuting crimes committed against children. She also facilitates the multi-disciplinary team meetings held at the Children’s Advocacy Center. This team investigates and prosecutes child sexual abuse cases in Fayette County.
She understands the issues facing our community and is committed to finding solutions. In 2020, she was asked to serve on the Mayor’s Commission for Racial Justice and Equality – Law Enforcement, Justice and Accountability. That committee discussed concerns community members had with law enforcement and the justice system and ways to address those concerns. She co-chairs the Legal Committee of the Fayette County Juvenile Treatment Court Steering Committee working to create best practices for juveniles charged with crimes. And on a national level, she is an associate member of the National District Attorney’s Association, serving on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She was also recently inducted as a Fellow into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and have been asked to serve on its Kentucky State Committee. She will also serve on the 2023 Kentucky Bar Association Convention planning committee.
She is also very active in her community. She has served as the chair of Lexington’s Annual Roots and Heritage Festival for the past 17 years. She is the Board Treasurer for the Community Action Council. She is also a member of Jack and Jill of America Inc. the Junior League of Lexington, an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., and the Ky Association of Professional African American Women (KAPAAW). She currently serves as the Usher Board president at Historic Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, where she has been a member for over 40 years.
Christopher Tracy (Bluegrass Regional Manager, DPA) joined the DPA in 2009, having graduated from UK Law and Butler University. He started in the unified Lexington office on Church St., originally sharing his office with two other staff attorneys. Subsequently, Chris became a staff attorney in the Lexington South office, before becoming the directing attorney of Lexington North in September of 2014. Around the same time, Chris became a regular coach/instructor with the education branch, helping with Week 1 trainings, Faubush, and capital voir dire. Chris has tried numerous cases to verdict, including two capital cases and a third murder trial with individual voir dire. He has attended various NACDL workshops, participated in the Clarence Darrow Institute in Chicago, and continues to seek out new information to better serve clients. Chris lives in Lexington with his wife Diana, and kids Charlie and Ruby.
