TRIALS, PROCEEDINGS & CLIENTS AMIDST THE PANDEMIC

You will hear from a Lexington Kentucky practitioner who has had trials continued, a Colorado practitioner who has experience with jury trials in recent weeks, a Corbin KY practitioner who had a recent federal trial in London KY, and a Texas practitioner who faces proceedings via technology. They will describe the many significant challenges and problems they face and their efforts to have trials continued or be done in a fair, constitutional manner, including seeking adequate voir dire. They will discuss the challenges of communicating with clients. You will receive a motion to continue that has proven successful, a motion concerning voir dire and the National Association for Public Defense Statement on the Issues with the Use of Virtual Court Technology (June 18, 2020) and NACDL Statement of Principles and Report Criminal Court Reopening and Public Health in the COVID-19 Era (June 2020)
