Don’t Break Your Sword Defending the Castle, 1HR

Angela Rea, Louisville Metro Public Defender and KACDL Board Member, Louisville, KY

Jury instructions are a blunt instrument. They are also the way that we explain the law to the jurors hearing our cases. The session will address the ever-evolving complexity of jury instructions about justification based on self-protection. We will discuss getting the law right, according to your Kentucky Appellate Courts, and drafting instructions that make sense to your jurors.

Brian Scott West, Department of Public Advocacy General Counsel and KACDL Education Committee Chair, Frankfort, KY
